MLK Sunday Teach-In
1:30pm - 3:00pm / Sanctuary
On Sunday, Jan. 15 from 1:30-3:00pm, Middle will host a King Sunday Teach-In on nonviolent strategies for everyday resistance. The workshop, led by Achebe Powell and Rob Stephens, is in response to a request from many congregants for information on how to combat racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, and hate in productive ways.
Achebe Powell is an international trainer on the issues of diversity and multicultural development. She has served on the New York State Human Rights Commission, coordinated a New York City Black and Jewish Women’s dialogue group, and served on the Multicultural Advisory Committee to the New York City Board of Education. She was a founding member of the Astrea Foundation, a national fund for women’s and girls’ projects, and has been consistently involved in organizing and training leaders in global women’s human rights movement, both abroad and in the United States.
