Easter Joy and Sad News
April 3, 2013
As bursting with joy as we are for this season of new life, we received incredibly sad news late Easter afternoon. Heidi Schwartz let us know that her husband Richard Schwartz—our social worker and staff to Open Doors—passed away on Saturday evening. Our hearts are broken at this sad, shocking, and sudden news. Many staff attended his small funeral on Tuesday with Jacqui Lewis officiating. We will also set a time in April to celebrate Richard's life and will let you know the date as soon as the information is available. Open Doors will be on hiatus as we seek ways to staff this program. If you have any concerns during this time, please contact the pastoral care line at 212-477-0666 ext 318. Only Middle pastors have access to this voicemailbox. Adriene, Chad, Jacqui, and Trish welcome your calls.

Lent at Middle Church
February 7, 2013
Lent is a time of preparation beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending on Maundy Thursday. The season lasts for about 40 days and commemorates the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert before beginning his public ministry.
Many Christians practice prayer, repentance, fasting, and alms-giving during the Lenten season. All these ancient practices have the power to propel us further and deeper in our relationship with God if we let them. Lent can test our minds, bodies, and spirits if we are open and willing to endure that journey – I hope you will journey with your family of faith to unexpected places this Lenten season.
