Celebrating Women in Worship

March 7, 2017

Though at Middle Church we honor women’s leadership 365 days a year, we are thrilled to be able to celebrate in March the specific contributions of women to American culture. On Sunday, March 5, we kicked off Women's History Month by celebrating women in worship.

We honored the leadership of Damaris Reyes, the Executive Director of GOLES (Good Old Lower East Side). We also honored actor and Middle Church member Karen Pittman, who offered a reading of the poem "Aint I a Woman?" by Sojourner Truth:

We celebrated women with A Concert for Women's History Month. This was an amazing concert with music from many genres sung by the women of Middle Church, the Manhattan Girls Chorus, the Aherne Sheehan School of Irish Dance, Jerriese Johnson Gospel Choir, Rising Sun, special appearances by Elizabeth Stanley, Sarah Abigail Griffiths, Elisabeth Rodgers, and our own Dionne McClain-Freeney. Donations were accepted to support the Women’s Prison Association.

Stay tuned for more ways we're celebrating women in worship this March!
