Speaking Out for LGBT Rights & Equality

December 14, 2017

This month, the Supreme Court heard oral arguements on the case Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. In the case, baker Jack Phillips refused to make a wedding cake for Charlie Craig and David Mullins, a same-sex couple. He said that it violated his religious beliefs. The case has long-reaching, harmful ramifications for an individual's right to refuse a service or goods.

Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis recently spoke with GLAAD in support of LGBT rights and equality surrounding the case. Rev. Lewis rejects the notion that religious freedom can be claimed in the case of Jack Phillips' cakes, stating that it is nothing short of a religious exemption that would allow him to disregard the law and discriminate. Watch the video with GLAAD and other faith leaders below.

Rev. Lewis recently traveled to Washington D.C. on the day of the oral arguments of Masterpiece Cakeshop to speak in support of LGBT rights and equality. See photos and watch her comments on #OpenforAll below.
