Children+Youth

Children and Youth often search for a spiritual identity all their own. At Middle Collegiate Church, we create a safe space where they can question, express, and explore their concerns about identity, responsibility, friendship, peer pressure, and how God fits into their lives.

Our classes use Biblical narratives and faith-based stories to teach values such as kindness, love, service, self-control, caring for others, community, ecological awareness, acceptance, excellence, responsibility, and integrity. We encourage discussions on topics ranging from prayer, worship, morality, ethics, and faith to peer pressure, discrimination, bullying, schoolwork, parents, and loneliness. We use the arts extensively to enhance how children and youth learn.

EDUCATION & YOUTH GROUPS
Wee Care (Birth to 4 years old)
Sundays 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM, 3rd Floor Nursery
Wee Care is our educational/child care space for children 4 years old and under, held in the third floor nursery from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Caregivers provide a safe space for the youngest members of our congregation to begin learning about the Bible through music, creative activities, and games.

The Ark (Grades K – 6)
Sundays 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM, 3rd & 4th Floor Studios, 4th Floor Classroom
The Ark is our educational program for children grades K-6 to explore the Bible with our instructors, engaging with lessons and art projects to connect with faith and justice values. On first Sundays, The Ark is on hiatus, and families are encouraged to worship together in the sanctuary.

The Breakfast Club (Grades 7 – 12)
Sundays 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Meets Offsite
The Breakfast Club is our educational program for teens grades 7-12. They are invited to make breakfast together (pancakes and eggs) and talk about the Bible with Marte Samuelstuen, Interim Director of Children, Youth, & Young Adults. Teens are also invited to other youth events and retreats throughout the year; check in with Marte for more information.

ARTS
Village Chorus for Children and Youth

Sundays, 1:00 – 2:30 pm, 3rd Floor Studio

Our Village Chorus brings together young people from all walks of life and unites them in a musical message of hope, peace, love, and radical welcome. The chorus explores repertoire from many cultures as they learn the basic elements of vocal production—breath technique, tone, posture—ensuring success for every participant. Children and youth experience fun as they learn and create amazing moments of soul-satisfying music. All participants must be able to read and have a strong interest in singing. For more information on the Chorus, including how to join, click here.
