Children+Youth
Children and Youth often search for a spiritual identity all their own. They have questions and concerns and need a safe space in which they can be expressed and explored. We create a safe space where they can question, express, and explore their concerns about identity, responsibility, friendship, peer pressure, and how God fits into to their lives.
Our classes use Biblical narratives and faith-based stories to teach values such as kindness, love, service, self-control, caring for others, community, ecological awareness, accepting the self and others, excellence, responsibility, and integrity. We encourage discussions on topics ranging from prayer, worship, morality, ethics and faith to peer pressure, discrimination, bullying, schoolwork, parents and loneliness. We use the arts extensively to enhance how children and tweens learn.
Friday Night Live (ages 13-18 years)
Teens' increased independence can raise concerns with their parents and guardians. Will they find friends whom they can trust and that they hang out with in safe places? Every Friday we offer great friends and safe places for young people (as well as yummy food) as they test out new ideas and ways to be in community.
Rites of Passage (ages 8-12 years)
This 12-week course for tweens is an introduction to various aspects of the Church and Christianity. Topics include: God as Creator, Christ as Redeemer, Spirit as Sustainer, Church Community, Partnership and Mission. Participants will read, share, create art that will be displayed in the 7th & Second Gallery and work on service projects. At the end of the class, the tweens are offered the chance to make an informed decision to join Middle Collegiate Church.
Journey (ages 12-18 years)
A time to bring youth together from the church and community to talk about topics that are relevant to teens in their everyday lives while connecting those topics to the Holy. Topics will vary, some coming from the worship celebrations, while others will come from the teens themselves. Food, fellowship, reflection and fun all rolled up into one! Check out btw_youth.
Children's Worship (ages 4-12 years)
A worship experience that allows children to experience God in a language that is familiar to them. The worship time is filled with bible study, music and the arts. The time together allows children to journey in their faith, ask questions and share their thoughts in community.
Children's Sunday School (ages 4 - 7 years)
An opportunity for children to explore the Bible through storytelling and art featuring lots of hands-on and exploratory learning using the "One Room Sunday School" curriculum.
Wee Care (Infant - 3 years)
During Sunday morning programming and through the brunch hour, our little ones learn and play in a safe nursery where they encounter God's Love in the care of loving adults.
Middle Arts Center Afterschool Program
Because of ongoing construction and repairs in the Middle Church facilities, the Middle Arts Center Afterschool Program for children has been suspended, effective September 2011. Middle Church needs this facelift desperately in order to provide safe, accessible programming to our community. Watch the website for ongoing developments and other programs for children and families.
