Vintage Gay Pride by Ron Yourkowski
A series of photographic based Polaroid images of Gay Pride Marches that date from the late 1980's. The technique is know as Polaroid Transfers which involves printing images onto cotton paper and then hand coloring them so each image is unique. The photos are 3 1/4 x 4 1/4, which makes them an intimate experience.
Politically, I remember the occasions as being more of a march or a show of solidarity. There was certainly the parade aspect but for me it was more of an outward expression of the fact that I was one of many thousands of Gays and Lesbians searching for recognition and acceptance as a member of society. The sense of pride was at moments spiritually uplifting. Of course at the same time we were all having an uproariously good time.
