MLK Day of Service: Rising for Child Literacy
January 17 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Education of our children was a key component to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s vision of beloved community. Six out of ten New York children do not read at grade level, and with the COVID-19 pandemic straining our education system it is important that we rise to support child literacy. On Monday, January 17th, for MLK Day of Service, come by Middle Church (50 E 7th. St) from 12:00 – 1:30 pm to donate new or gently used children’s books that will be delivered to a local organization in need. And while you are there, you can leave a note describing your “dream” for beloved community. As a gift of our gratitude, the first 20 people who bring a new book for a child will receive a free signed copy of Rev Dr. Jacqui Lewis’ new book Fierce Love.
For online family: If you would like to make a donation to help us buy books for children in NYC, email Rev. Darrell Hamilton.
