To begin our Lenten journey, we'll gather on Zoom to worship in contemplative love. Due to the pandemic, we can't impose ashes as we would in previous years. And we didn't want to ask people to start fires to make their own! So we'll be doing a slightly different ritual this year.
Please plan to gather elements for communion—any “bread” or “cup” is fine. And please also gather your own “ashes”—a little mud from your favorite outdoor space. Why mud? This ritual will remind us that humans are all “adam,” all created from the red earth—adamah. We who are scooped from clay will impose ashes on ourselves or on the folks in our family. In this act, we hope to remind you that you belong to the Earth, God and one another.
