SUMMARY:Voter Reform Group
DESCRIPTION:A strong democracy depends on civic engagement and a commitment to pluralism. We come together every other week to learn\, discuss\, and share our individual perspectives on elections and political issues affecting our communities and nation. Importantly\, we use this group to take action. We register new voters and mobilize voters for every election. We encourage members to become poll workers and monitors\, and to take action on voting rights and other justice issues. We engage in nonpartisan postcard writing campaigns to encourage people to vote and remove any financial barrier so that all citizens can equally participate. Together\, we send thousands of cards and letters and amplify our impact. Join us bi-weekly on Sundays at 10am-11am to mobilize. \nClick here to RSVP and receive Zoom information for our next meeting. \nTo join the team\, contact votingproject@middlechurch.org.

SUMMARY:Reparations Task Force
DESCRIPTION:This group examines Middle’s own history of colonization\, Indigenous exploitation\, and Black enslavement to help us think about how we can use the resources generated by white supremacy—from which we still benefit—to create a more just world. To create continuity in this work\, the group is closed to open membership. Interested parties can contact one of the co-chairs Anna Polovick Waggy to schedule a conversation.

SUMMARY:Reimagining Indigenous Relations and Reparations in NYC
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to us for this special 1-hour event\, hosted by Middle Church\, Judson Church\, and Old First Reformed Church\, Brooklyn\, where Anthony Trujillo (Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo)\, a PhD student in American Studies at Harvard University\, will share some of his work over the past year as the Middle Reparations Task Force’s Indigenous History Consultant. The goal of this event is three fold: to address some of the common misperceptions\, oversights and pitfalls regarding Indigenous communities and histories; to reframe conversations about reparations around contemporary Indigenous perspectives and concerns; and to share with and learn from sibling faith communities who have also made a commitment to engaging in the challenging but vital work of repairing relations with New York City’s Indigenous communities.
