SUMMARY:Voter Reform Group
DESCRIPTION:A strong democracy depends on civic engagement and a commitment to pluralism. We come together every other week to learn\, discuss\, and share our individual perspectives on elections and political issues affecting our communities and nation. Importantly\, we use this group to take action. We register new voters and mobilize voters for every election. We encourage members to become poll workers and monitors\, and to take action on voting rights and other justice issues. We engage in nonpartisan postcard writing campaigns to encourage people to vote and remove any financial barrier so that all citizens can equally participate. Together\, we send thousands of cards and letters and amplify our impact. Join us bi-weekly on Sundays at 10am-11am to mobilize. \nClick here to RSVP and receive Zoom information for our next meeting. \nTo join the team\, contact votingproject@middlechurch.org.

SUMMARY:What White People Must Do Now: A critical conversation led by Rev. Amanda Hambrick & Rev. John Janka.
DESCRIPTION:In 2012\, as we mourned the death of Trayvon Martin\, Middle Church’s board declared that we would no longer simply be known as a multi-ethnic\, multicultural\, fully-welcoming congregation\, we would commit to Antiracism in the center of our faith\, love\, politics and ethics. \nOn January 19\, 2025\, from 10:30-11:30a\, in honor of Martin Luther King\, Jr. and his prophetic work\, join us in a Zoom Classroom for \nWhat White People Must Do Now: \nA critical conversation led by Rev. Amanda Hambrick & Rev. John Janka. \n(All are welcome\, no matter your ethnic identity.) \nIn his seminal book\, Where Do We Go From Here: Community or Chaos\, Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. wrote: \n\n“White Americans must recognize that justice for Black people cannot be achieved without radical changes in the structure of our society.” \n\nJoin us as we continue our intentional journey toward building antiracist Beloved Community. \nAfter class\, make your way to Middle Church for our 3:00p King Day Worship Celebration featuring a movement music sing-in and an honoring of Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer and the work of our Voter Reform Group. \nStay for a hour with jazz music\, great conversation\, and hugs with friends. \nRegister using this link
