SUMMARY:From Survival to Sanctuary: Meeting the Moment Community First Aid and Embodied Practice
DESCRIPTION:Join in fellowship for a collaboration between Judson’s Health and Safety Working Group and Middle Church’s Meeting the Moment Task Force for a special event on Sunday February 9th at 1pm\, where we will transition into a time of collective\, embodied practice — acknowledging how the challenges of these times lives in our bodies\, and locating the powerful tools of faith\, breath\, and action together. Our special guest for the day will be Miriam\, an ER RN and Street Medic who has been leading free anti-carceral community first aid trainings in collaboration with Judson. Miriam will lead us in a session reviewing some basic collective readiness protocols for both sanctuary and street action in a range of scenarios\, as well as addressing specific risks in this moment around police and ICE involvement. We’ll close with actionable next steps and with an invitation to future offerings already in the workd from Judson\, Middle\, and our network of radical faith spaces.

SUMMARY:People's Budget Campaign Launch
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to join the FY26 People’s Budget Campaign Launch on Wednesday\, February 19 at 11 AM at the steps of the Tweed Building (52 Chambers St\, NYC). Together\, we’ll fight for a People’s Budget and demand #CareNotCuts for all New Yorkers. \nWhy It Matters:\nMayor Adams’ budgets have cut critical city services multiple times\, leaving New Yorkers struggling with issues like insufficient 3K and childcare seats\, underfunded CUNY programs\, and deteriorating parks. \nOur campaign\, the People’s Plan NYC\, envisions a budget that prioritizes care\, dignity\, and justice. At the launch\, we’ll share our core demands and kick off a five-month push for funding essential services like public schools\, childcare\, CUNY\, and safety programs. Full demand list to be released by the end of next week! \nWe hope to see you on February 19 as we fight for a people’s budget that works for all New Yorkers! RSVP with Rev Amanda \n

SUMMARY:Glitter Ash Wednesday
DESCRIPTION:Glitter+Ash Wednesday claims and transforms a historically Lenten ritual as God’s holy affirmation of Queer existence. \nBy wearing Glitter+Ash today\, you are part of a public Christian witness taking place throughout the US\, the UK\, and Canada. Ashes are an in-your-face statement that death and suffering are real. Ashes are a sign that we repent of our role in the violence that pervades our world\, especially violence against queer and trans people and LGBTQ asylum seekers. \nThe glitter is a sign of our hope and fierce relentless love. Glitter+Ash is a powerful reminder of St. Augustine’s teaching that we cannot despair\, because despair paralyzes. \nGlitter signals our promise to repent\, to show up\, to witness\, to work. Glitter never gives up – and neither do we. \nGlitter+Ash is a joint venture of Middle Church\, St. Lydia’s Dinner Church\, Parity and the Stone Catcher Project.

SUMMARY:Hands Off! Day of Action
DESCRIPTION:Location: Bryant Park\, NYC to Madison Square Park\, and actions nationwide \nTrump\, Musk\, and the Far-Right majorities in Congress are gutting services\, firing workers\, raising prices\, and racing to slash Medicaid\, Social Security\, civil liberties\, universities\, the Department of Education\, DEI\, voting rights\, LGBTQ+ rights\, and more. The truth of our nation’s history is being attacked and suppressed. \nIt’ll take more than marches to change this country’s direction—but every resistance needs a mass movement behind it. It needs people of faith to pray with their feet. \nThat’s why Middle is joining this National Day of Action. We will gather in Bryant Park at 1:00 PM\, march on Fifth Avenue\, and end at Madison Square Park. \nEmail Rev. Amanda at ahambrick@middlechurch.org to be added to the Signal chat for the day if you’d like to march in coalition. \nIf you’re not in NYC\, find your local HANDS OFF Day of Action here: https://handsoff2025.com/—and let us know where you’re marching!

DESCRIPTION:A strong democracy depends on civic engagement and a commitment to pluralism. We come together every other week to learn\, discuss\, and share our individual perspectives on elections and political issues affecting our communities and nation. We encourage members to become poll workers and monitors\, and to take action on voting rights and other justice issues. We engage in nonpartisan postcard writing campaigns to encourage people to vote and remove any financial barrier so that all citizens can equally participate. Together\, we send thousands of cards and letters and amplify our impact. Join us bi-weekly on Sundays at 10am-11am to mobilize. \nClick here to RSVP and receive Zoom information for our next meeting. \nTo join the team\, contact votingproject@middlechurch.org.
