Both last week’s and this upcoming week’s scriptures come from the book of Ephesians, which is a letter that Paul (or, more likely, one of his followers) wrote to the church in Ephesus.
Ephesus is now in Turkey, but back in New Testament times, it was part of Greece. It’s right on the Mediterranean:

Ephesus was the third largest city in the Roman Empire, but a few hundred years after Christ, so much silt had built up in its port that ships could no longer use it, and so the city fell into rapid decline.
