This Sunday, Jacqui’s sermon is “Simply Magnificent What God Can Do!” Her text is Luke 1.46b–55. This is the “Song of Mary,” often called the Magnificat because of the first word in the Latin translation, meaning “magnifies.” (Magnificat anima mea Dominum — “My soul magnifies the Lord.”)

It is what Mary proclaims after Elizabeth (and John, who is in her womb) recognize that Mary is pregnant with the Christ child. It is a celebration of how our God regards and uplifts those whom our society regards as lowly.

The gospel according to Luke and the gospel accordinag to Matthew are the two accounts of the nativity. Matthew’s account is about how Jospeh is given divine guidance. Luke tells Mary’s story.

That’s all for this week. Please add thoughts or information in the comments for others!
