Holy Week at Middle Church
Can you believe the last time we gathered in-person for Easter was April 2019?! We are so thrilled to invite you to join us in-person at East End Temple for our Easter worship celebration on Sunday, April 17 at 10:00 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. ET. Truly, the opportunity to gather together and proclaim how God is risen feels like a testimony to that resurrection! (We will, of course, stream the 11:45 a.m. ET celebration so that all our members outside NYC or anyone who prefers to worship remotely can celebrate beside us.) And, after Easter, we will continue in-person/online hybrid worship every week at East End, unless it becomes unsafe to gather.
We’re still in a global pandemic, however, so if you plan to join us in-person, please review the list of policies our COVID task force has prepared to help keep us safe.
Our worship team is hard at work getting the new space ready for a fabulous Easter celebration—and for the following week’s two-day convening Fierce Love in a Hybrid World. Accordingly, all our other Holy Week celebrations will be held online. Click the images below to learn more about how to join us throughout the week. We particularly hope to see you for the beautiful watch party Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis is hosting April 10 at 11:45 a.m. ET to celebrate Palm Sunday! Together, we’ll watch Middle’s fabulous rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar, with some new elements added in. Then, Rev. Catherine Torpey will host a lovely Maundy Thursday gathering, we’ll have a traditional 7 last words Tenebrae worship for Good Friday. Then, Pam Edgar, Rev. Susan Mufson and Rachael Ward will host a Holy Saturday prayer vigil. So come with us as we journey toward the empty tomb! More details available below.
A note for Easter Sunday: East End’s sanctuary fits 200 people, but we’re capping attendance at 150 to allow some spacing because this pandemic is still very real. If the sanctuary fills, folks can watch the 11:45 a.m. livestream with one another on phones in Stuyvesant Square Park right across the street, where we’ll all celebrate together after each worship. Elise is also organizing a wonderful Easter egg hunt in the park between worships. And we’re thrilled to tell you that we’ll be making an exciting announcement about our rebuilding during the Easter celebration!
