Lent & Holy Week at Middle Church
Does it ever still feel like March 2020? As we begin another Lenten journey in this pandemic, we know that—for so many folks—it’s felt like that first Lent never ended. We’re still in the wilderness. Still waiting. Still wandering. Still yearning for resurrection amid so much death. And the truth is: We may not leave this particular wilderness anytime soon. So what does it look like to call this “home” instead? How can we build a tabernacle for God and one another to preserve and amplify our love?
Christian traditions are often bad at waiting. Particularly in communities like Middle, who are rightfully so action-oriented, living amid circumstances we cannot control can be devastating. So, throughout this Lenten season, we’ll be offering resources from two different sources to help us cultivate a better wait. First, we’ll be drawing from the rich Buddhist tradition of present waiting and cultivating mindfulness. Second, we’ll dig into mysticism traditions from the early Church, to help us imagine how we can live into the tension of this call: be still and move.
