Honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s message of non-violence, Middle Collegiate Church -- a multiracial congregation -- literally "beat a sword into a plowshare" -- by forging a gun into a farming tool during worship. Mike Martin, of RawTools, reshaped the gun into a mattock.

Moyers speech is followed by a panel discussion with Khalil Cumberbatch of JustLeadershipUSA and Hector "Benny" Custodio from the film, and moderated by The Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis. Middle Collegiate Church is committed to ending mass incarceration. We partner with the #CLOSERikers campaign in New York City and are an interfaith partner with Bill Moyers Rikers: An American Jail documentary. The #CLOSErikers campaign partners often meets at Middle Church. We collaborate with partners to end the cradle to prison pipeline and to advocate for bail reform.

Rev. Jacqui Lewis, Rev. John Janka, board members Edna Benitez and Darren Johnson and our director of communications, Christina Fleming, traveled to the Mexican/United States border wall near El Paso, Texas. They joined faith leaders and activists from around the country to hear stories from immigrants and scholars near the border. Faith leaders spoke against the immoral and unjust policies that have separated families.
