In this season of uncertainty, it is comforting to know that some things will be as they have always been. They will not and cannot end because they did not begin– they already were. They have simply always been. I think this is what the old folks back home meant when they sang “Hold to God’s unchanging hand.”

The Divine has been and always will be. It’s up to us to learn and grow, to expand our view of God to see God more clearly.

“I am the alpha and the omega,” the God of the Book of Revelation says.

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth,” the Book of Genesis says.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” Says the Gospel of John.

There are multiple references in our traditional canon of ways in which an ancient people understood a God who was there, who IS there, and who will be there.

Our UCC tradition holds a “comma faith,” if you will. There’s a popular line from a letter written by Gracie Allen to her husband, “never place a period where God has placed a comma.” The comma faith serves as a reminder that God is still speaking.

In this season of uncertainty, I pray you remember that you are held by a loving God who was here yesterday, is here today, and will be here tomorrow.

PS: Soul Food Supper postponed to a later date.

We can’t wait to celebrate Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with you today. We’ll have online worship at 11:45a, and hybrid worship at 3:00p at Judson and on our YouTube Channel. Because of the inclement weather forecast, we’ve rescheduled our Soul Food Supper for January 26 after the 3:00p worship celebration. We’ll keep Building Beloved Community family for weeks to come. Stay safe and warm!

See you at church,

Rev. Natalie Renee Perkins

We believe in the power of Love. Period.

Through Love, we are each created in God’s image and filled with the Divine Spark. No matter whom we love, no matter how we look, no matter where we are on our journey, God’s imprint is in every person of every race/ethnicity, every gender, and every sexual orientation. We believe God speaks many languages and is calling us on many paths to peace—Shalom. We believe that Love put on flesh—brown, poor, Jewish baby flesh—and came to live among us. We believe God lives among us still; we are the living body of Christ. We are the hands, feet, and heartbeat of God. We believe the Spirit of God calls us to freedom, and we are not free until all of us are free.
