Natalie R. Perkins and Hal Taussig, In Trembling Boldness: Wisdom for Today from Ancient Jesus People

June 14, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join authors Rev. Natalie Perkins and Hal Taussig along with surprise guests to discuss this exciting new book that engages ancient writings in unique ways. Introducing dozens of excerpts from texts like The Odes of Solomon, The Gospel of Thomas, and The Thunder: Perfect Mind, In Trembling Boldness draws meaning and connection between ancient followers of Jesus and the most pressing issues of today, including LGBTQ+ inclusion, incarceration, addiction, immigration, violence, illness, the work of social justice, civil disobedience, and more. The epigraph of Toni Morrison’s novel Jazz is taken from one of the ancient, recently discovered writings it includes, and Umberto Eco discusses another one in his novel Foucault’s Pendulum.

The event will take place in the Members Room of the New York Society Library (53 East 79th St., New York, NY). It will be streamed, as well, but you must register to attend!
